Ilyperenye (Ill-pa-rinya) or Old Timers was first incorporated on the 22nd, August 1977 by residents to support their efforts to obtain security of tenure; housing and essential services. Ilyperenye is located at Lot 5708 which has been held by virtue of a Special Purpose Lease in Perpetuity for Aboriginal Communal Purposes since 1981. Ilyperenye is home to speakers of Arrernte, Warlpiri, Luritja, and Pitjantjatjara. The 2005 population and mobility study identified that the resident population at that time was 89 people and that the service population was as high as 145 people . In December 2009 Ilyperenye entered a Tripartite Alice Springs Living Area Sublease with the Executive Director of Township Leasing (Commonwealth) and the CEO of Housing (Territory) for a period of 40 years, under the threat of compulsory acquisition. This agreement led to an investment in housing and infrastructure by the Commonwealth and Territory as part of the Strategic Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Program (SIHIP); and to the transition from community-controlled housing to housing management by the Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development (DLGHCD). Today Ilyperenye is home to 9 households, prior to SIHIP there was only 8 households. It is predicted that the population of Ilyperenye has seen an increase proportionate to the increased number of dwellings. Ilyperenye is a Corporate Member of TCAC. Ilyperenye is led by a Management Committee, the President is a Director of Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC). Ilyperenye is a party to the Local Decision-Making Commitment Agreement between TCAC and the Territory.
